On June 20, 2025, the Russian House in Brussels hosted a festive musical evening titled Mysteries of the Russian Soul: Pushkin – Tchaikovsky – Prokofiev, dedicated to important cultural anniversaries: the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, the 185th anniversary of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and the upcoming 135th anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev. The event became a vivid musical and literary tribute to three titans of Russian culture.

Before the start of the concert, the atmosphere was imbued with the spirit of high literature: the distinguished French writer and member of the Académie Française, Dominique Fernandez, enthusiastically presented his new novel — Un choix impossible, the presentation of which preceded the Musical Evening. At the heart of the novel lies the tragic and brilliant fate of composer Sergei Prokofiev, whose 135th birthday we will celebrate next year.

The highlight of the evening was a concert featuring vocal and instrumental works by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, capturing the finest nuances of the Russian soul—from dramatic intensity to lyrical tenderness. The audience was captivated by the expressive portrayals of heroines from Russian opera and chamber music, brought to life by the outstanding soloists: soprano Elena Fedorova (Belgium) and contralto Flavia Age (Switzerland). Their wonderful duet in scenes from Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades deeply impressed listeners, showcasing both vocal expressiveness and profound dramatic interpretation.

An exceptional part of the evening was the exquisite performance by pianist Inna van Mechelen (Belgium). Her subtle and inspired accompaniment, as well as her solo rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Dumka, left a lasting impression. Thanks to her mastery, the musical images gained particular emotional depth and vividness.

The evening concluded with the opening of the exhibition “Summer Kaleidoscope – 2025. Celebrations in Russia”, prepared by compatriots. The exhibition offers visitors a colorful visual journey through Russia’s cultural calendar. During the opening, participants were awarded certificates of appreciation and gifts from the Russian House. In turn, the artists expressed sincere gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity to present their works to a wider audience.

The exhibition will be open until September 18.

This musical evening in Brussels was not only a tribute to great names but also a true celebration of Russian spirituality and artistic heritage, resonating in the heart of Europe.
