The Russian House Cinema Club in Brussels hosted a premiere screening dedicated to National Unity Day. Belgian viewers had the opportunity to watch “Peter I: The Last Tsar and the First Emperor,” a docu-drama directed by Andrei Kravchuk, about one of Russia’s most prominent rulers — Peter the Great, the first Emperor of Russia. The screening attracted both history enthusiasts and those interested in Russian cultural heritage.
The figure of Peter I, along with the era of his rise and reign, continues to captivate minds around the world. The filmmakers recreated the most significant events from Peter the Great’s life on screen, utilizing modern filming techniques and computer graphics. They showed how the last Russian tsar ascended the throne as the fourteenth child in his family, how he fought for access to the sea when the country had no professional army or navy, and how, in just a few decades, he elevated the Russian Empire to a global power.
The film resonated strongly with the audience due to its rich historical content, visual accuracy, and the masterful blend of documentary facts with artistic reconstructions. Following the screening, a discussion took place, during which participants praised the film’s high quality and educational value. Attendees shared their impressions, reflected on historical parallels, and expressed gratitude to the organizers for providing the opportunity to connect with important chapters of Russian history.
