The Russian House in Brussels hosted a screening of the feature film «Bless the Woman», dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow and the 90th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Soviet and Russian film director Stanislav Govorukhin. The screening took place as part of the Russian House Film Club and brought together audiences interested in Russian cinema classics and historical remembrance.

Before the screening, guests learned about the significance of the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, observed annually in Russia on 22 June, the day marking the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. This memorial day commemorates the millions who perished on the front lines, civilians, victims of the occupation, and all those who gave their lives for Victory. The evening acquired special symbolic meaning through its focus on the work of Stanislav Govorukhin, whose films are distinguished by profound humanism, attention to individual destiny, and respect for the nation’s history.

Based on Irina Grekova’s novella «The Mistress of the Hotel», «Bless the Woman» tells the touching story of a woman’s selfless love, loyalty, and inner strength, whose fate becomes closely intertwined with the dramatic events of the pre-war and wartime years. Featuring remarkable performances by Svetlana Khodchenkova and Alexander Baluev, the film made a deep emotional impression on the audience, prompting reflection on the value of human happiness, duty, and devotion.

Following the screening, the traditional discussion took place, during which participants praised Stanislav Govorukhin’s masterful direction, the outstanding performances, and the enduring relevance of the themes explored in the film.

The next screening, also dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Stanislav Govorukhin’s birth, will take place on 9 July. Film Club guests will have the opportunity to watch The Actress.
