In November 1941, at the very beginning of the harsh winter, as the siege ring closes around Leningrad, a group of young ice-yacht athletes ventures onto the thin, newly formed ice of Lake Ladoga. What begins as a mission to deliver ammunition soon turns into a rescue operation to save orphans from a children’s home who were left behind during the evacuation. Former rivals in sport must become a true team in order to survive themselves and bring hope to those depending on them.
