The film takes place in a small seaside settlement in the years before the war. A young woman falls deeply in love with a visiting military officer and follows him to his place of service. Through the hardships of military life and the trials of wartime, she carries her love for her older husband, devoting herself to him completely. The film is about selfless love and fidelity, about a profound and poignant feeling granted only to the chosen few.

The Day of Remembrance and Sorrow is commemorated annually in Russia on June 22 — the day the Great Patriotic War began. This date honors the memory of millions who perished on the front lines, civilians, victims of occupation, and all those who gave their lives for Victory.

Stanislav Govorukhin (1936–2018) was an outstanding Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, actor, and public figure whose work became an integral part of Russian cinema.

His films are distinguished by masterful direction, expressive imagery, and memorable performances. Govorukhin worked equally convincingly in adventure films, dramas, and adaptations of classical literature.

Stanislav Govorukhin’s creative legacy continues to inspire audiences of different generations. His works have become classics of Russian cinema and remain relevant thanks to their profound humanism, attention to the individual, and sincere interest in the history and culture of the country.
