The Film Club of the Russian House in Brussels is pleased to present documentary films by the Russian Geographical Society (RGS).

The Russian Geographical Society (RGS) is one of Russia’s oldest public organizations, founded in 1845. Its main mission is to explore Russia, preserve its natural heritage, and promote geographical knowledge. Today, the RGS carries out large-scale scientific, educational, and expedition projects, supports research, contributes to environmental protection and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, and produces documentary films introducing audiences to Russia’s unique landscapes, diverse peoples, and outstanding explorers.

“The Sibiryakov Expedition”

This documentary film by the Russian Geographical Society is dedicated to one of the key chapters in the history of Arctic exploration and the development of the Northern Sea Route. The film tells the story of a large-scale scientific research expedition led by Otto Sibiryakov, whose goal was to study the northern maritime territories, their navigational potential, and natural conditions. The documentary recreates the atmosphere of the era of great geographical discoveries and shows the difficulties faced by explorers in the harsh Arctic environment.
