On November 10 at 13:00, the Russian House in Brussels invites you to a festive concert by the “Altro coro” contemporary choral music ensemble under the direction of Alexander Ryzhinsky. The concert will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elena Fabianovna Gnessina, as well as Unity Day.

The ensemble will perform a program titled “Masterpieces of Russian Sacred Music: from Mikhail Glinka to Alfred Schnittke”. The works of Mikhail Glinka, Pavel Chesnokov, Viktor Kalinnikov, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky will be performed. The audience will also hear spiritual verses and folk melodies. The highlight of the evening will be excerpts from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil.

About «Altro Coro»: The contemporary choral music ensemble «Altro Coro» is a student group from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. The ensemble is the winner of nine international competitions. The artistic director of the ensemble, Alexandr Ryzhinskii, is the rector of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, a laureate of the Russian Government Prize, Doctor of Art Studies, and professor. One of the main missions of the ensemble is to promote rarely performed or unknown choral and vocal-ensemble works. The group regularly participates in various music festivals and gives concerts in different cities across Russia and abroad.

About Gnesina and Gnesinka: Elena Fabianovna Gnesina was an outstanding pianist and educator, one of the founders of the modern three-level music education system in Russia (school – college – university), and the founder of educational institutions bearing the Gnesin family name. A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, Elena Gnesina, at the age of 20, founded a music college with her sisters, becoming its permanent leader. Thanks to decades of dedicated work by the Gnesin family, a small private school grew into a family of institutions that now bear and glorify the Gnesin name: the Gnesin Moscow Children’s Music School, the Gnesin Music College, the Gnesin Moscow Secondary Special Music School (College), and the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.

The Academy building houses the only museum-apartment in Russia located within an educational institution, telling the story of Elena Fabianovna and other members of the Gnesin family. Every first-year student of Gnesinka goes through a dedication ritual as they cross the threshold of the museum-apartment.

On April 11, 2016, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music was recognized as a particularly valuable cultural heritage site of the peoples of the Russian Federation.

Many music specialties that exist in Russian education were first introduced at the Gnesin institutions. Currently, the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music offers all specialties and fields of study related to music.
