The Russian House in Brussels invites audiences to a new online session of the “Evening Hermitage” series, dedicated to 20th-century art.
This time, viewers will continue exploring the exhibition of the State Hermitage Museum at the General Staff Building and take a virtual walk through the second-floor galleries featuring a collection of 20th-century Italian sculpture.

The collection is largely composed of works donated to the museum by the artists themselves. Solo exhibitions of outstanding Italian sculptors became an important reflection of the artistic movements of the 20th century and a response to the complex historical events of the era. The artistic development of many sculptors took place during the so-called “Black Twenty Years,” when Italy was under fascist rule. The creative careers of Giuliano Vangi and Bruno Liberatore developed in the post-war period, when European art was searching for new forms of artistic expression.
Each artist sought to create a distinctive sculptural language, reinterpreting the traditions of European sculpture in their own way. Their works reflect the legacy of Antiquity and the Renaissance, as well as the influence of Baroque, Impressionism, and Abstractionism. Through sculptural form, the artists expressed a philosophical vision of the world, a search for harmony between humanity and nature, and the poetic sensitivity of their individual artistic perspectives.
The online meeting will be led by Marina Chekmaryova, methodologist of the Educational Department of the State Hermitage Museum.
