Opening reception: February 12, 6:00 PM (ONLINE)
The Russian House in Brussels, in cooperation with the Museum of the World Ocean and the 5 Oceans Club, presents the exhibition “Captain Cousteau in Russia”. The exhibition is dedicated to the life and legacy of the legendary explorer, oceanographer, and filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau made thousands of dives and produced over 120 films, revealing the mysteries of the underwater realm to millions of viewers worldwide. His work inspired generations to care for the environment and helped to establish nature conservation as one of the key humanitarian trends of our time.
Throughout the 1960s to the 1990s, Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his team actively collaborated with Russian scientists, conducting joint expeditions and exchanging underwater filming techniques and ocean research expertise.
The Museum of the World Ocean and Jacques-Yves Cousteau are connected by the history of the legendary research vessel Vityaz, which was turned into a museum ship and moored at the museum embankment in Kaliningrad. In 1967, the famous scientist came aboard the vessel and left a message and his autograph in the guestbook. This book is now on display on board Vityaz.
