Organized by the Association of «Friends of Leo Tolstoy”

From November 1 to December 12, 2024, the unique exhibition “Landscapes of Yasnaya Polyana in the World of Leo Tolstoy” is being held at the Russian House in Brussels, organized in collaboration with the “Association of Friends of Leo Tolstoy.”

Finissage on 12.12 at 19:00

This exhibition features the works of French artists Sonia Tolstoï and Anne Lefol, who visited Yasnaya Polyana in 2018, a place of great significance for the family of the famous writer Leo Tolstoy. Walking along the same paths once taken by their ancestor, the artists were inspired to create a series of paintings dedicated to the landscapes that surrounded Tolstoy in his childhood. This trip and the family reunion in Yasnaya Polyana became the starting point for their artistic memories.

The Association “Friends of Leo Tolstoy” was founded in 1977 by the writer’s grandson, Dr. Serge Tolstoï, in honor of the 150th anniversary of his birth. After Serge Tolstoï’s death in 1996, his wife, Countess Tolstoï, became the chair of the association. A few years later, their son, Dimitri Tolstoï, became the president of the association.

The association aims to unite all those interested in the personality, works, and ideas of the great Russian writer. It organizes various events such as conferences, theatrical performances, film screenings, and trips to Russia to visit places connected with the life of Leo Tolstoy. Once a year, the Association holds Tolstoy Day, dedicated to a specific work or aspect of the writer’s creative legacy. Leading French and international experts participate in this event. The association also publishes the “Leo Tolstoy Notebooks,” which reflect the topics discussed during Tolstoy Day.

We invite all art lovers and admirers of Leo Tolstoy’s legacy to enjoy these beautiful landscapes and experience the spirit of Yasnaya Polyana!
