From the Collection of the Russian National Museum of Music
On November 7, at the Russian House in Brussels, Mikhail Bryzgalov, Director General of the Russian National Museum of Music, will present the exhibition “Musical Instruments of Russia. Masterpieces from the Collection of the Museum of Music”. The exhibition is dedicated to the celebration of one of Russia’s main national holidays — Unity Day.
The exhibition will introduce visitors to the musical instruments of the peoples and regions of Russia, the creativity of instrument makers and performers, and the diversity of ethnic and folk traditions that have developed across the country: from the Volga region and Finno-Ugric areas to the central regions, Siberia, and the Russian North.
A special focus is placed on the work of the Great Russian Orchestra of V.V. Andreyev — the first ensemble in Russia to unite Russian folk instruments in 1900.
Thanks to QR codes, visitors will be able to listen to the sound of each instrument.
Following the opening, a lecture by Mikhail Bryzgalov, Director General of the Russian National Museum of Music, titled “Russian Music: Pages of History” will take place. The lecture highlights selected chapters in the history of Russian music from the mid-19th century to the present day, presented through short stories about great Russian composers and musicians such as Mikhail Glinka, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Sergei Prokofiev, and Rodion Shchedrin.
The evening will conclude with a concert by musicians from the Saratov State Conservatory named after L.V. Sobinov.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until 16 January 2026.
