Russia Day is one of the country’s principal national holidays, bringing people together around Russia’s centuries-old history, cultural heritage, and rich traditions. This day symbolizes respect for national culture, the diversity of the peoples of Russia, and the continuity of generations. Music, combining folk intonations with the achievements of the world classical tradition, conveys the spirit of this celebration with particular vividness.
This evening, the stage will welcome brothers Mikhail Romanychev (balalaika) and Fyodor Romanychev (piano) — laureates of Russian and international competitions who have been performing together in Russia and abroad for more than 19 years. The musicians will present a vibrant program revealing the unusual and expressive combination of balalaika and piano. This rare ensemble unites folk sonorities with the academic tradition, allowing audiences to rediscover both Russian music and masterpieces of the world classical repertoire.
The Romanychev Duo is renowned for its virtuoso performance and bold musical dialogue, in which the balalaika sounds modern, subtle, and multifaceted. The concert will become a musical journey from Russian folk motifs to masterpieces of 20th-century European classical music, highlighting the richness and universality of Russian musical culture.
The Romanychev brothers have performed at prestigious venues in Russia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Estonia, China, and the United Kingdom. In 2015, they became winners of the chamber music competition at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland.
