On July 7, the Russian House in Brussels invites you to a new edition of the series “Hermitage Evenings ONLINE.” This time, we continue our virtual journey through the collections of the General Staff Building of the State Hermitage Museum and turn to one of the most influential artists of the 20th century — Pablo Picasso.

Cubism became the second major art movement of the early 20th century after Fauvism. While the Fauves introduced the power and freedom of color to the world, Picasso radically reinterpreted form and space, proposing a new artistic language.

He compared his own Cubist works to “shattered mirrors,” in which reality is broken into fragments and reassembled anew. This approach is divided into three key stages:

– Cézannian Cubism

– Analytical Cubism

– Synthetic Cubism
