Dear friends! We invite you to the next meeting of our literary salon, dedicated to the humor of the early 20th century.
At the meeting, we will explore the works of four great masters of the written word: Sasha Cherny, Mikhail Zoshchenko, Nadezhda Teffi, and Arkady Averchenko. In their works, not only are comedic elements sharply expressed, but also deep social and psychological tension, often hidden under layers of lightness and wit.
Main discussion topics:
- How does the humor of these authors reflect the cultural and social life of early 20th century Russia?
- What are the distinctive features of their literary techniques, which combine heightened perceptions of reality with unparalleled wordplay?
- How do they use humor to critique the vices of society, politics, and human relations?
We will examine the works of each author and discuss how these writers used humor to analyze human nature and social transformations.
Also… Do you write a little or dream of doing so? Do your friends suggest you put your misadventures on paper because you can tell a sad or unpleasant story with a good dose of humor? Or maybe you just love good humor and are considered the life of the party? Bring your humorous novellas—we will read and discuss them together!
Haven’t read Teffi, Averchenko, Zoshchenko, or Cherny? Don’t know how to write but simply enjoy spending time with pleasant people and learning something new? Our salon doors are open to you too.
