In honor of the 180th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian artist Ilya Repin

On October 17, 2024, the Russian Museum will host an online event dedicated to the great Russian artist Ilya Repin and timed to coincide with the 180th anniversary of his birth, on the virtual platform of the Russian House in Brussels.

The work of Ilya Repin will be presented on the basis of the exhibition that was held in the Russian Museum in 2019-2020 with the participation of Russian and Finnish museums and private collections. The exhibition has been includes more than 250 paintings and graphic works by Repin – recognized masterpieces and little-known works of the artist, as well as memorial items related to his life and work.

Panoramic shooting technologies will enable viewers to find themselves in the exhibition halls and see canvases of portrait, historical and everyday genres of different periods of Repin’s work. The scale and volume of the exhibited works fully reflects the creative searches of the greatest Russian painter of the second half of the 19th century, whose name is associated with the establishment and flourishing of realism in Russian fine art.

Valentina Gorlova, the Head of the Excursion and Lecture Department of the Russian Museum, will conduct the tour. The live broadcast of the online tour will be carried out from the Multimedia Center of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.

The online excursion is organized as the part of the project “Conversations about art to the Russian Museum”, which is run by the Russian Museum in cooperation with the Russian House in Brussels and is dedicated to introducing foreign audiences to the history of Russian fine art. The online excursion will be held in Russian with simultaneous translation into French.
