A joint project of the State Hermitage Museum and the Russian House in Brussels

On April 15, 2025, the third meeting of the “Hermitage Evenings” project will take place on the virtual platform of the Russian House in Brussels. The theme of this meeting, “Easter in Imperial Russia,” will be dedicated to the traditions of celebrating the Holy Resurrection of Christ in pre-revolutionary Russia.

Languages: Russian/French

During the video tour, the exhibition curators will discuss the religious meaning and symbolism of Easter, Easter souvenirs, and folk games. You will learn how people in the past played the traditional game of “rolling Easter eggs” and hear fascinating facts about rare exhibits displayed in the Small Church of the Winter Palace.

Additionally, you will discover unique Easter eggs made from delicate materials and learn about their origins. Participants will have the opportunity to virtually visit the Hermitage’s restoration laboratory and photo studio, where experts will share professional secrets about restoration and museum photography.

Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Imperial Russia, learn more about Easter traditions, and explore the museum from the inside!

The upcoming meetings of the “Hermitage Evenings” cycle will feature stories about the museum’s collection and temporary exhibitions organized by the State Hermitage Museum, a truly encyclopedic institution.

The tour will be conducted by Anna Petrovna Ivannikova, the exhibition curator and research associate of the Department of Russian Cultural History.

The upcoming meetings in the “Hermitage Evenings” series will cover both the museum’s collection and temporary exhibitions of the State Hermitage—this truly encyclopedic museum.

Themes of future tours:

–        A family tour of the Hermitage;

–        Ars Vivendi: Frans Snyders and the Flemish Still Life;

–        The Art of Dutch Masters;
