A joint project of the State Hermitage Museum and the Russian House in Brussels
Language: Russian/French
On May 20, 2025, on the virtual platform of the Russian House in Brussels, as part of the “Hermitage Evenings” project, the Hermitage will host an exclusive premiere screening of a video tour of the new exhibition “Packaged Dreams. Art Deco Fashion from the Collection of the State Hermitage Museum and Nazim Mustafayev’s Collection.”
Guests will be the first to see works by renowned Western European designers Paul Poiret, Jeanne Lanvin, Mariano Fortuny, Edward Molyneux, and Lucien Lelong. The shoe collection features masterpieces by legendary shoemakers Pietro Yantorny, André Perugia, Israel Miller, Salvatore Ferragamo, as well as firms like Hellstern & Sons, Netch et Frater, François Pinet, Saks Fifth Avenue, and many others.
One hundred years ago, on April 28, 1925, the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (French: Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels moderne) opened in Paris, bringing together dozens of participating countries from Europe and Asia. This event marked the triumphant rise of a new artistic style that replaced Art Nouveau and became widely influential.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Paris exhibition, the State Hermitage is launching an exhibition dedicated to the fashion of Europe and America in the 1920s and early 1930s — one of the most vibrant and significant manifestations of the Art Deco style.
The video tour features commentary from Nina Ivanovna Tarasova, curator of the exhibition and Head of the Applied Arts Sector at the Department of Russian Culture History of the State Hermitage Museum; collector Nazim Sultanovich Mustafayev; and project coordinator and advisor to the General Director of the Hermitage, Svetlana Anatolyevna Datsenko.
After the video tour, curator Nina Ivanovna Tarasova will answer guests’ questions.
