Dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre
On April 22, we invite connoisseurs of classical music to the concert “Music of the Bolshoi: Ballet, Opera, Romances” by the outstanding pianist, Honored Artist of Russia Oleg Vainshtein.
This evening will become a true musical journey into the history of one of the main symbols of Russian culture — the Bolshoi Theatre, which celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1776 by decree of Empress Catherine II, the theatre became not only the center of Russian opera and ballet, but also a stage where masterpieces of world classical music were created.
It was on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre that Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky first appeared as a conductor — at the premiere of his opera “Cherevichki” in 1887. Here, his legendary “Swan Lake” was also staged, becoming a hallmark of the global ballet repertoire.
The concert program will feature piano compositions connected with the Bolshoi Theatre’s repertoire from different years. Music familiar from the ballet and opera stage will be presented in a new, virtuosic piano interpretation.
Oleg Vainshtein, Honored Artist of Russia, is one of the leading Russian pianists, Associate Professor at the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, and a laureate of international competitions. His performances are distinguished by refined musicality, depth of interpretation, and brilliant technique.
Program:
I. Tchaikovsky — M. Pletnev: 5 pieces from the ballet “The Sleeping Beauty”
P. I. Tchaikovsky — P. Pabst: paraphrase on themes from the opera “Eugene Onegin”
V. Rachmaninoff — E. Wild: 7 song transcriptions
