On 24 September, the Russian House in Brussels and GITIS – Russian Institute of Theatre Arts invite you to The Vagabond, a musical drama exploring love, memory, and the journey toward self-discovery.
The production is inspired by The Black Man, one of Sergei Yesenin’s most profound poems, as well as his poetry and personal correspondence. Left alone with his memories, emotions, and inner conflicts, the protagonist relives the past through letters, while the tavern Beryozka becomes a place where memories take on human form.
On stage, drama intertwines with music, dance, and live vocals. The score blends rock, lyrical ballads, and contemporary music, creating a unique atmosphere in which the voices of the characters merge with the sound of the accordion and the noise of the surrounding world. Yet the louder the music becomes, the closer The Black Man draws—a silent witness and the hero’s inescapable companion on his journey toward self-understanding.
The Vagabond is an honest reflection on love, honour, choice, personal convictions, and the price of a life lived. Blending drama, comedy, farce, music, dance, and physical theatre, this multi-genre production offers a powerful theatrical experience that will leave no one untouched.
