On December 31, the Russian House in Brussels invites you to a New Year’s online concert by the Saint Petersburg Chapel Symphony Orchestra, which will be streamed on the website.

New Year’s concerts of the Saint Petersburg Chapel Symphony Orchestra have long been a special event, creating a unique festive atmosphere. On December 31, the orchestra will be joined on stage by the Alexander Maslov Trio.

You will hear jazz arrangements of classical works and film music: Fantasy on the theme of the chorus “Fly Away on the Wings of the Wind” by A. P. Borodin from the opera Prince Igor, excerpts from the suite from the ballet «The Nutcracker» by P. I. Tchaikovsky, the «Aladdin Fantasy» by Alan Menken from the film of the same name, and Alexander Maslov’s New Year Fantasy.

The Chapel Orchestra will also perform popular classical music, Latin American music, themes from movies and musicals, and works by Duke Ellington, Anatoly Kalvarsky, and others.

The Alexander Maslov Trio is one of the most famous jazz ensembles in St. Petersburg. The trio consists of Alexander Maslov (piano), Filipp Meshcheryakov (double bass), and Pavel Chizhik (drums, vibraphone). The ensemble creates original jazz versions of well-known classical works and original fantasies on themes from the world musical heritage.

Their repertoire includes arrangements of excerpts from ballets by Tchaikovsky and Khachaturian, jazz fantasies on themes from operas by Glinka, Borodin, and Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as bright interpretations of famous film soundtracks. The trio actively collaborates with symphony and chamber orchestras. In 2017, they released their debut album Between Classics & Jazz, featuring jazz versions of works by Beethoven, Schumann, Borodin, Glinka, and Tchaikovsky.
