80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War
The photo exhibition by the Russian Geographical Society, “Hero Cities through the Lens”, is dedicated to the contemporary life of hero cities renowned for their heroic defense during the Great Patriotic War. The photographs show how the memory of the heroic deeds committed in these places is carefully preserved.
The exhibition features works by participants of the Russian Geographical Society’s photo contest “The Most Beautiful Country”. The images include memorials to heroes of the Great Patriotic War, architectural landmarks, cityscapes, and points of interest.
Twenty photographs represent nine majestic cities whose defenders and residents displayed mass heroism and courage in the defense of their homeland and made a historic contribution to the overall victory in the Great Patriotic War. These cities are: Saint Petersburg (Hero City Leningrad), Moscow, Smolensk, Murmansk, Novorossiysk, Kerch, Sevastopol, Volgograd, and Tula.
Visitors to the park will be able to stroll along the central streets of Moscow, admire the views of the Peter and Paul Fortress and the drawbridges of Saint Petersburg, and see the sculpture “The Motherland Calls” towering on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd—one of the tallest statues in the world—along with other beauties of the hero cities.
