Event for learners of Russian of all levels

Event for learners of Russian of all levelsImmerse yourself in Russian culture through food, communication in the Russian language, and a lively atmosphere. This is not just a picnic, but an interactive event where you don’t just listen—you participate: cooking, discussing, playing, and speaking Russian in a natural and relaxed setting.

At the heart of the event is a live mini-lecture on Russian cuisine as an essential part of everyday culture. We will explore how culinary traditions were formed, why the oven played a key role in cooking, what explains the simplicity and heartiness of many dishes, and how food culture is evolving today. You will learn which dishes have become culinary symbols (borsch, shchi, porridge, pancakes), how food is connected to seasonality and climate, and discuss similarities and differences with other cuisines. The lecture is interactive, with questions and open discussion.

The cooking part becomes a full language practice. Participants will prepare potatoes for baking in the coals and cook sausages over the fire, while learning vocabulary and conversational patterns.

The event concludes with a shared tasting: hot potatoes from the fire, sausages, tea, and a cozy picnic atmosphere. This is a time for informal conversation, sharing impressions, and naturally reinforcing new vocabulary in real communication.

The event is held in collaboration with the organization “Belgian-Russian Friendship”.
