Meeting point: Main entrance of Brussels Central Railway Station (inside)

Lecture duration: 2–2.5 hours

Language: Russian

On May 29 at 11:00, the Russian House in Brussels invites B1+ level students and anyone interested to join a city lecture through the center of Brussels with historical and cultural commentary that enhances the study of the Russian language.

During the second part of our lectures, we will ascend from the Lower Town to the Upper Town — a world of power and aristocracy that has towered above the lives of ordinary citizens for nearly a thousand years. On the way, we’ll visit the Cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula, where an unexpected surprise awaits us. After that — many fascinating stories connected with the Parliament building, the City Park, and the Royal Palace.

After exploring the architectural ensemble of the Royal Square, we will walk along a street incorrectly named Rue de la Régence, for as long as time allows. As in our first lecture, special attention will be given to the various connections between Belgians and Russians that span more than 300 years.

Our lecturer through this historical journey will be the experienced Vladimir Ronin—a historian, Slavist, and philologist who has taught at the Antwerp branch of KU Leuven University for over 30 years. He is also the author of guidebooks on Antwerp and Brussels.
