During the course we will study the most famous works of Russian writers and poets from different periods: from the great Pushkin to our contemporaries, using translations into European languages where possible. We will also discuss the lives of these writers and immerse ourselves in the cultural and historical context of their work.
Course highlights
– Introduction to the works of Russian writers and poets: Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Gorky, Brodsky and others;
– Reading and discussing the works and their characters;
– Getting to know the historical and cultural context;
– Visiting to famous literary locations: Pushkin’s, Gogol’s, Akhmatova’s, Blok’s St. Petersburg;
– Watching fragments of film adaptations of Russian classics;
– Discussing interesting grammatical topics and examples;
– Expanding vocabulary;

Each Conversation Club session is dedicated to a specific theme: ‘Journey to Lake Baikal’, ‘Weekend in a Russian dacha’, ‘Man in the Space’, ‘The great Alexander Pushkin’ and others.
The communication of the listeners among themselves and with the teacher is the main focus of the classes.
You will be able to:
– increase your vocabulary
– repeat and practise using grammatical material in oral speech
– take part in discussions on literary excerpts, film fragments and songs
– take part in discussions organised by the teacher on the topic of the lesson.

Cuisine is an important part of any culture. In this course we will learn how Russian cuisine has developed and how our tastes have changed. We will also talk about how the Russian cuisine came to include the typical dishes: shchi, borsch, pancakes, and why the Olivier salad, invented by a French chef, is considered to be a native Russian dish. We will also go on a culinary journey. We will get to know the national dishes of the peoples living on the territory of Russia.

– Getting to know the history of Russian cuisine, dishes and their recipes;
– Studying the technology of cooking individual dishes;
– Getting acquainted with the national dishes of the peoples living in Russia;
– Cooking and tasting individual dishes;
– Learning new vocabulary and grammar related to Russian culinary and other traditions.
Evening Film

In this course we will not only get to know the most famous films of Russian cinema, but we will also improve our speaking, reading and writing skills using film dialogues as examples. Our film selection includes Soviet films, which are considered classics of Russian cinema, as well as modern films. And, of course, you’ll get to know more about contemporary Russian culture and life.
Course Highlights
– Watching fragments of cult films (‘The Irony of Fate‘, ‘Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears‘, ‘Stilyagi‘, ‘Legend No. 17‘, etc.)
– Discussing the film fragments watched and analysing lexical and grammatical material
– Writing reviews and essays on the films watched
– And even: shoot and dub your own video in Russian!

Who says that Russian grammar is difficult? Russian grammar is fun! We have created a course with the most fascinating grammar topics. Each student can also suggest a topic to discuss with the teacher in class.
We look forward to:
– analyse various grammatical rules and exceptions (the use of verbs of motion ‘to go – to walk’, ‘to go – to drive’, etc., types of verb prefixes and other morphological ‘wonders’, universal meanings of grammatical cases, etc.);
– Practice using new grammatical material in oral and written expression;
– Interactive learning format with the use of video material, grammar quizzes, dictations, etc.)

The course is based on sample exams from previous years developed by our official certification partner, the Pushkin Institute of Russian Language . We will help you to analyse your mistakes and get the preparation for the exam through a variety of practice exercises in five language qualifications :
– Reading
– Speaking
– Listening
– Vocabulary-Grammar
– Writing
The TORF/TRKI certificate is a CEFR document valid for an unlimited time.
To pass the exam, you must score a minimum of 66% in each subtest. If you score less than 66% in any sub-test, you have the right to retake the failed sub-test within 2 years for an additional fee (50% of the cost of the test). Successful sub-test results will be taken into account when retaking the exam.
