Dear friends! Our literary salon is known not only for its readings and discussions of classical works. Among our participants there are writers, poets, singers…

And their recognition goes far beyond just the local circle. One of our salon members, Irina Mikhailova, became a prize winner of the literary contest “Letter to Santa Claus” in the nomination “Most Touching Letter,” organized by masterskaya_a_f and LadaFM.

You can read more about the contest results here:

And we invite you to read the letter itself.

A Letter to Santa Claus

Dear Santa Claus — my dear old friend,
I hope you won’t mind how I begin.
I seem to have more than one small wish
Now that I’ve taken up my pen.

May I speak to you simply — as “you”?
I’m no longer a child — it’s true.
Yet sorrow has not conquered my dreams,
They still keep shining through.

Not routine, nor the ache of the heart,
Nor betrayal’s bitter disguise
Could silence the love inside my chest
Or darken my inner skies.

So I don’t ask for distant stars
Burning cold above —
But strength to write the way I do now,
More joy in life, less tears in love.

Teach me gratitude each day
For every fleeting smile I see,
And if I may ask one gift —
Let wisdom grow in me.
Let my heart beat calm and steady,
Let my spirit be wide and warm,
Let every bright and living rhyme
Carry a thread of sun reborn —
To guard the home from shadow,
To help us breathe and live,
To warm us like a quiet flame —
What more is there to give?
Perhaps you’ll come for tea one day —
I promise, not for long.
You need not answer if you’re busy —
Just know I wait, and strong.
I believe in you, in snow,
In midnight bells that ring.
Take care of you and all your crew —
Don’t forget your coat in spring.
And keep your faithful reindeer warm —
He’s earned his rest this year.
Happy New Year, Santa Claus —
New world, new day, new cheer.
