From 24 October to 28 November 2024, more than 1,470 Russian language teachers from 110 countries will take part in the distance methodological events ‘Organisation of coursework teaching Russian as a foreign language abroad’, which will be conducted for them by Russian colleagues: teachers working with adults and children, on-site and remotely, in universities and public schools, authors of teaching aids, researchers, speech therapists, school administrators abroad. The methodological events are organised with the support of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).
The programme of events was developed by the World of Russian Textbooks training centre with the assistance of the Zlatoust Training and Publishing Centre, which is a leader in the development and production of new teaching materials for those studying and teaching Russian as a foreign language. The programme participants are foreign practicing teachers who teach Russian in various formats: at Rossotrudnichestvo courses, in language schools, circles and clubs, in kindergartens, schools and universities, as well as privately. Participation in the programme is absolutely free of charge.
As part of the programme, participants are expected to attend various events: video lectures by leading specialists in the field of RCT, master classes and online discussions, as well as open lessons. Training will take place on the website https://mirrki.ru (Getkurs SDO). During the training, participants will get acquainted with the latest teaching and methodological materials, master modern digital educational technologies and tools, and discuss with colleagues current issues of organising and conducting short-term Russian language courses for foreigners outside Russia.
The content of the programme is focused on the peculiarities of organising and conducting Russian as a foreign language courses abroad and is aimed at solving the problems faced by foreign Russian language teachers: lack of unified programmes due to the diversity of study groups and learning objectives, lack of profile education and lack of access to modern methods. The programme is designed to develop the necessary competencies of the participants, provide access to up-to-date materials and teaching tools, provide scientific and methodological support and facilitate the introduction of best practices in Russian language teaching abroad.
The proposed programme includes 5 modules:
- ‘Organisation of teaching Russian to children and bilingual children in programmes of different duration and intensity’.
- ‘Organisation of Russian language training for adults in intensive programmes’.
- ‘Aspect-based Russian language teaching’.
- ‘Development of effective online and blended Russian language education programmes for coursework and individual learning’.
- ‘Methodological laboratory of the teacher of the Russian language, including Russian as a foreign language: educational, methodical literature and electronic editions and educational resources in individual and course teaching’.
Professional development of Russian language teachers strengthens their professional status, increases students’ interest in language learning and the attractiveness of Russian education in the international arena.
