225 Years Since the Birth of Karl Bryullov
On November 26, 2024, an extraordinary cultural event took place on the virtual platform of the Russian House in Brussels — a virtual tour of the Russian Museum dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian artist Karl Bryullov. The event, which brought together an international audience to explore masterpieces from the collection of the Russian Museum, was organized by the Russian House in Brussels.
Thanks to panoramic filming technology, participants were able to virtually “walk” through the halls of the Mikhailovsky Palace, where Bryullov’s works are housed. Among them is the renowned painting “The Last Day of Pompeii,” which symbolizes the artist’s European fame.
The tour was led by Valentina Gorlova, head of the Excursion and Lecture Department of the Russian Museum. She provided a detailed account of Bryullov’s life and work, unveiling not only the grandeur of his artistic talent but also the vibrant personality of the master, whom his contemporaries called “Great Karl.”
This event was part of the project “Conversations About Art with the Russian Museum,” aimed at introducing international audiences to the rich heritage of Russian fine art. The tour sparked keen interest among Belgian participants, allowing them to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the 19th century and appreciate the scale of Bryullov’s creativity.
The event demonstrated how digital technologies can unite people from different countries and cultures, making art accessible and inspiring.
