To mark the 80th anniversary of Victory, the film club of the Russian House in Brussels hosted the premiere screening of Air, a poignant and honest film by Alexey German about female heroism during the Great Patriotic War. The audience witnessed not just a war drama, but a deep and emotional story about the price of Victory — how difficult it was to achieve, and the real trials faced on the front lines, especially by those who came to the skies with youth and hope in their hearts.
The film takes us back to the 1940s, to a combat aviation regiment where a group of young women pilots arrive. Still unaware of the horrors of war, they gradually face bloodshed, fear, and loss — and transform into true warriors. Outstanding performances by Anastasia Talyzina, Aglaya Tarasova, and Sergey Bezrukov give the film special emotional depth. The cinematography and use of real aircraft make the aerial scenes truly gripping and authentic.
Air is more than just a film — it’s a living reminder of the past, conveyed through the image of a woman at war. The film received the Golden Eagle award in seven categories, including Best Feature Film. The screening featured English subtitles, allowing an international audience to fully experience the power of this story.
