On May 7, the cinema club of the Russian House in Brussels hosted a screening of the feature film “The Black Forest” directed by Radik Kudoyarov. The event was dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Musa Jalil and to Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. The film, based on real events, became an important part of the commemorative program organized by the Russian House.
The audience learned about the heroic life of Musa Jalil — an outstanding Tatar poet, journalist, and Hero of the Soviet Union — his participation in the anti-fascist underground movement, and his tragic fate. The story of the “Moabit Notebook,” written by the poet during his imprisonment, became one of the central themes of the screening and offered a new perspective on the strength of the human spirit and the power of literature in the darkest times. Special attention was drawn to the film’s first-ever cinematic reconstruction of the execution of major war criminals in Nuremberg.
After the screening, a discussion took place during which guests highly praised the film’s artistic quality. Many viewers emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and safeguarding the truth about the events of the Second World War for future generations.
The screening of “The Black Forest” at the Russian House in Brussels once again confirmed the European audience’s interest in Russian historical and cultural heritage. The evening became not only a cinematic event, but also an important occasion for reflection on courage, human dignity, and the memory of war heroes.
As part of the commemorative program dedicated to Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a multimedia exhibition entitled “The Science of the Great Victory” was opened before the screening. The exhibition was devoted to the contribution of Soviet scientists to achieving Victory. The project was jointly organized by the Kurchatov Institute, the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation, and the Polytechnic Museum.
The exhibition demonstrates how, during the war years, Soviet science succeeded in rapidly mobilizing the country’s intellectual and industrial resources, ensuring the development and implementation of advanced scientific and technological solutions. These achievements greatly contributed to Victory and strengthened the country’s defense capabilities.
