The Russian House Film Club in Brussels hosted the premiere screening of the animated feature film Hotel Onegin — a unique creation inspired by Alexander Pushkin’s novel Eugene Onegin and the opera of the same name by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The audience witnessed a rare synthesis of literature, music, and visual art, embodied in the bold auteur project of director Irina Evteeva.

The film, produced at the M.I.R. studio, amazed viewers with its format: it blends live-action performance with a variety of animation techniques, including frame-by-frame painting on glass using light glazing. This is not merely an adaptation of a classic story, but a layered journey into the space between dream and reality, where Pushkin’s characters take on new, sometimes surreal, forms.

The screening sparked lively interest among the audience and concluded with a discussion involving film critics, animators, and fans of Russian culture. Hotel Onegin is a rare example of how classical heritage can be reimagined through the lens of contemporary visual language.
