On 12 December on the stage of the Russian House, a grand opening of the unique exhibition “The Enchanted World of the Snow Maiden” took place, attracting the attention of art enthusiasts and theater history lovers. The exhibition is displayed on external stands and invites visitors on an enchanting journey through the images of the Snow Maiden, created by book illustrators and theatrical artists.

The story of this legendary heroine, who inspired masters of different eras, is filled with drama. The first staging of Alexander Ostrovsky’s play, with music composed by a young Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, did not find success with the public. It premiered in 1873 and was received coolly. However, the play found a second life thanks to the opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, which marked the beginning of the fairy tale’s triumphant journey across world stages.

A special focus of the exhibition is on how the Snow Maiden’s story inspired artists in the 20th century. Visitors will be able to see illustrations and sketches created for theatrical productions, as well as recall adaptations, including famous animated versions.

The opening was not only the launch of the exhibition but also a platform for lively dialogue among artists, audiences, and researchers of Russian culture. “The Enchanted World of the Snow Maiden” is not just a tribute to the classic tale but an attempt to once again explore the image of a heroine who continues to inspire new generations of creators year after year.
