A special screening took place at the Cinema Club of the Russian House in Brussels, marking the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov — a classic of Russian literature and Nobel Prize laureate. The evening was dedicated to the film adaptation of his greatest work, «And Quiet Flows the Don», which has become a landmark not only in Russian but also in world culture. Guests were able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Don steppes, where the fates of characters unfold amid the turmoil of revolution and war.
The screening of «And Quiet Flows the Don», directed by Sergey Gerasimov, became a true return to the roots of great Russian prose and cinema. Distinguished by its deep psychological insight and sweeping historical scope, the film remains relevant even today. The tragic story of Grigory Melekhov, brilliantly portrayed by Pyotr Glebov, and the moving image of Aksinya, performed by Elina Bystritskaya, once again stirred powerful emotions and reflections on human choice, love, and duty.
After the screening, a lively discussion followed. Participants shared their impressions of the film and reflected on how literature and cinema help us understand the historical destinies of nations and preserve the memory of the past. The event became not only a cultural occasion but also a heartfelt tribute to the greatness of Russian literature.
