On September 19, at the Maison Russe Bruxelles-Europe, don’t miss the first musical conference of the 2024/2025 season. This special evening celebrates the great composers of the 19th century: Michel Glinka, the father of Russian music, Rimsky-Korsakov and Mussorgsky, as well as Alfred Schnittke, one of our eminent contemporaries.

We will begin with Michel Glinka, often considered the father of Russian music, famous for his pioneering works such as “A Life for the Tsar” and “Ruslan and Lyudmila”, founders of Russian romantic musical identity.

We will also pay tribute to Rimsky-Korsakov, known for his operas and orchestral works that capture the richness of Russian folklore with unparalleled mastery, and also to Mussorgsky, who is renowned for his bold and innovative compositions, such as “Boris Godunov” and “Pictures at an Exhibition”, which redefined the musical landscape of his time, ending with Alfred Schnittke, one of the most important contemporary composers, who fused diverse musical styles and explored techniques innovative while remaining anchored in Russian tradition, thus marking a new era in 20th century music.

Maestro Andrei Shevtchouk, conductor of the symphony orchestra and choir director, will passionately share with us some anecdotes, plots and videos from different interpretations of masterpieces of these composers. With over 20 years of experience in France, Belgium, Germany and across Europe, as well as in Russia, he is known for his role as conductor and choirmaster in various theaters and festivals, as well as for his role as artistic director of opera festivals and choirs.
