To the 150th anniversary of the birth of S.V. Rachmaninoff

On November 28, at the Russian House in Brussels a presentation of the exhibition of the Russian National Museum of Music “Rachmaninoff. The Well-Known and the Unknown” will take place as a part of the anniversary events in honor of the composer.

A special guest Mikhail Bryzgalov, Director General of the Russian National Museum of Music, President of the Association of Music Museums and Collectors, honored art worker of the Russian Federation, laureate of the RF Government Prize in Culture, member of RF UNESCO Commission, member of the Public Council Commission for Cultural Cooperation under Rossotrudnichestvo, will take part in the event and will present the exhibition.

The exhibition tells about interesting facts from the biography of the great artist, the history of the creation of famous and lesser-known compositions and showcases some rarely displayed and little-known documents. The exhibition materials include eighteen Rachmaninoff’s original manuscripts.

The character of Rachmaninov’s personality is revealed through documentary photographs. Those who didn’t know him well enough or only saw him on the stage thought Rachmaninoff was a gloomy, reserved and unsociable man. It was only in the company of friends and family that Sergei showed a totally different side of himself: he could laugh contagiously, crack kind and harmless jokes, show incredible generosity, care and willingness to help others.

An unusual addition is recordings of radio broadcasts of the multimedia project “Expomusic”, which are available on the websites of Radio Orpheus and the Russian National Museum of Music.

The exhibition is on display from November 29 to December 29, 2023.
