To Sergey Rachmaninoff’s 150th anniversary

On June 5, at 18:00, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brussels will host a lecture by Mikhail  Bryzgalov, Director General of the Russian National Museum of Music, President of the Association of Music Museums and Collectors, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, laureate of the Russian Government Prize in the field of culture, member of the Commission of  Russian Federation for UNESCO, member of the Commission of the Public Council under Rossotrudnichestvo on cultural cooperation, on the topic: “Sergei Rachmaninoff: “I am a Russian composer””, where he will introduce to the audience the eponymous exhibition of the Museum of Music opened in the Russian House in Brussels, and will also speak in detail about the numerous events held in Russia and abroad in honor of the composer’s anniversary.

On June 6,  at 18:30 on the Day of Russian Language the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brussels will host the finisage of the museum’s exposition “Sergei Rachmaninoff: “I am a Russian composer””, which will be attended  by M.A.Bryzgalov.

The exhibition is based on Rachmaninoff’s artworks immense archive, which the composer’s relatives and close friends donated to the Russian National Museum of Music at different times.

Composer, pianist, and conductor – the exhibition highlights these three major creative roles of Rachmaninoff as well as other facets of his unique personality. Sergei Rachmaninoff devoted much effort and resources to social activities, he was a generous philanthropist, а loving family man and а faithful friend. Exhibits include rarely exhibited and little-known documents and photographs.

The multimedia content is an integral part of the exhibition. You can use QR codes to listen to fund recordings of popular compositions by Rachmaninoff, performed by the author and other outstanding musicians. A special addition features recordings of radio broadcasts from Expomusic – a unique multimedia project available on the websites of Orpheus Radio and the Russian National Museum of Music.

The program of the event includes the concert of the romances of  S.Rachmaninoff performed by Elena Fedorova (soprano), Inna van Mechelen (piano) and Salome Tsankashvili (piano).
