On January 12, the Russian House in Brussels hosted the traditional Russian holiday Old New Year.

Vera Georgievna Bunina, the director of the Russian House in Brussels, opened the festive evening by congratulating all those present on the New Year and Christmas and told about the traditions of the Russian Old New Year.

The combination of contradictory notions (old and new at the same time) is a mystery for people unfamiliar with history. There are such family traditions, which through generations are preserved and observed by family members, these traditions include the meeting of the New Year in the old, Julian calendar. In Russia, family values are given great attention, so 2024 is declared the Year of the Family.

The concert program was performed by the folk folk-instrumental ensemble “Zolotoy Ples”, which surprised the guests of the Russian House by playing Russian folk bowed, percussion and wind instruments, the richness of sounds that contain the soul of Russian culture. The audience discovered with great interest not only the sound, but also the story about Russian folk instruments, including the zhaleyka, domra, accordion, bayan and others. The guests listened with pleasure to humorous couplets collected in the Saratov region, instrumental pieces on the theme of popular Russian folk songs, round dance and dance songs.
