On March 14, 2023, the Russian House in Brussels (Belgium) hosted a screening of the film “Champion du Monde”. The screening of the film took place within the framework of the “Art Unites” project of the Assembly of Eurasian Peoples, with the support of the Government of Moscow and the Charitable Foundation of Social Initiatives “Peace and Harmony”.
Before the start of the viewing, Elmira Muratbekovna Shcherbakova, Deputy Head of the General Secretariat of the Assembly of Eurasian Peoples, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. Some sports victories are more than sports. They go down in history. This film is about the most dramatic and legendary duel in the history of chess: the match for the title of world champion between the current world champion Anatoly Karpov and the contender for this title, grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi, who emigrated from the USSR a few years ago before this game.
The confrontation of outstanding chess players is above all a duel of characters. Against a young genius who has barely ascended the chess Olympus, a child prodigy and an idealist – a seasoned fighter, obsessed and unpredictable, ready to fight with any weapon, chess is war for him. A virtuoso game, maximum psychological tension and a personal human confrontation between the two strongest chess players on the planet. The price of victory in this game is immeasurably high.
The film was received very warmly by the public. The screening became a landmark event, because true art unites us all.
